Faces of Nelnet: Jim Harris, National Director, Nelnet Partner Solutions

 Seems a bit ego-centric to have an article about myself on this blog…but I needed to take my turn.  Thank you, Jodi, for interviewing.  Jodi is a manager on our  Sales Support team.  

 

 

Jim Harris, National Director, Nelnet Partner Solutions

 

Jodi Miller: What area do you cover for Nelnet?

Jim: I am the National Director for the Partner Solutions team. I try to attend all of the regional financial aid conferences and visit various schools across the country.

Jodi: Where do you live?

Jim: Fort Collins, Colorado.

Jodi: How many years have you worked in the financial aid industry?

Jim:  I have worked in the industry for 12 years. I have been with Nelnet since 2003.

Jodi: What previous positions have you held?

Jim: Campaign Manager for two gubernatorial candidates; Admissions Officer;  Director of Financial Aid, Western Wyoming Community College; Associate Director of Student Financial Service, Colorado State University; goat milker; Dairy Queen burger artist; high school English teacher; Account Executive, Wells Fargo; cater waiter; bartender; short order cook (lasted only one day), and lots of different things at Nelnet…not necessarily in that order.

Jodi: Are you a member of any financial aid industry associations?

Jim: I am a member of NASFAA, and I am on the Board of Directors for RMASFAA.

Jodi: What is your education background?

Jim: I have a master’s in public administration and Bachelor of Arts in English and communications from the University of Wyoming.

Jodi: Jim, tell me about your family.

Jim: I have been married to my beautiful wife, Kathy, for 20 years.  We have two children: Robby (17) and Gracie (16). 

Jodi: What are some of your interests outside of work?

Jim: Reading, cooking, working out, spending time with my family.

Jodi: Tell me one thing about you that many people may not know.

Jim: I once attended the Olympic Training Center for gymnastics.  What an experience!
