Faces of Nelnet: Pam King, Strategy Director and Regional Director for Missouri, Nelnet Partner Solutions

Pam King, Partner Solutions Strategy Director and Regional Director for Missouri

Dawn:  What conferences are you attending this fall?  Please tell me about any presentations or sessions you’ll be doing.

Pam:  November 6th, I will be heading to the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks in mid-Missouri to attend the MASFAP conference.  In addition to having a Nelnet booth, I will be serving on the loan servicing panel.

Dawn:  What is your main focus right now?  I know you’re on some projects for Nelnet; can you give me some insight on those?

Pam:  I can be working on a half dozen different projects at any one time, so there is never a dull moment for me.  I love the variety of things that I will be working on throughout a day or week.  I recently completed the month end reporting on behalf of the Partner Solutions team, and I am providing support to the team as we work to get current primary contact information for every school.  I also enjoy helping my school customers who reach out to me for assistance with questions or borrower needs.

Dawn:  Have you had any memorable moments over the past year work-wise that you’d like to share?

Pam:  Every day is a memorable moment working with the Partner Solutions team.  Not a day goes by that a humorous email or verbal comment isn’t made by someone on the team.  It is a pleasure to work with such a great group of individuals who know how to work hard and have fun!

Dawn:  What is your favorite work-related iPad app that you can’t live without?

Pam:  I am an iPad newbie, so I’m still learning all of the unique things that I can do on the iPad.  I do use Evernote quite often, and it was free!

Dawn:  What do you see as the biggest challenge schools are facing right now?

Pam:  I think the schools are really struggling to find a balance right now.  All of the new regulations have come at the same time that many offices are facing significant budget cuts.  It is almost impossible to find any balance when your administrative burden is increasing so significantly and your resources are declining.

Dawn:  What is your best recent read or CD you’ve purchased?

Pam:  I stay very busy, so I haven’t had time to read a book in years.  I make time to read quick news stories almost daily, so I don’t feel like I’m living in a cave. That’s about all I have time for.  I honestly don’t remember the last time I bought a CD.  I think it was last summer after a Foreigner concert; I went out and bought their greatest hits CD.

Dawn:  Who has been your Work / Life mentor throughout the years and why?

Pam:  I have been blessed to have many different mentors throughout the years. They have each molded and shaped the person I am, both personally and professionally.

Dawn:  What was the most recent meal you cooked that turned out awful?

Pam:  I love to cook, and honestly I can’t remember making anything that I thought turned out awful.  My opinion may be clouded though!
