FAQ: What is the NSLDS School Portfolio Report, and what user-specified parameters are available for selection?

October 28, 2011

As a Direct Loan servicer, Nelnet’s Partner Solutions team receives questions from the school financial aid and borrower community on a regular basis.  In an effort to share the information and educate our school partners, Partner Solutions is posting to its blog some of the more relevant and well-timed questions that we receive.

Q:  What is the NSLDS School Portfolio Report, and what user-specified parameters are available for selection?

A:   The School Portfolio Report provides school users with information about all William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) and/or Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans for the school code associated with the user’s ID.  This report includes loans that are serviced by all servicers, including the Department of Education’s federal loan servicers.  It provides useful loan information including:

  • Original and current GA or ED servicer codes
  • Original and current lender codes
  • Current loan servicer code for each loan
  • Loan amount
  • Current OPB
  • Current OIB
  • Delinquency date
  • Discharge and rehabilitation/repurchased information

The report parameters that a user may select include:

  • Date entered repayment – begin and end date range of three years or less
  • Loan status – All, Open, Closed, Defaulted, Payment Suspended (deferment or forbearance), In-School, In-Repayment, Open Disability, and Un-reinsured
  • Loan program – Direct Loan, FFEL, or both
  • OPEID –  All data or branch specific. To receive all data at the six-digit OPEID level, leave the asterisk [*] in the branch ID field. To receive data for a specific branch, include the last two digits of the eight-digit OPEID for that branch.  If a school has merged into a new or existing OPEID, the loans associated with the previous OPEID will be included in the new or existing OPEID’s report output.

The report output is sorted by SSN or Last/First Name and is available in extract format only. The report will be delivered to the SAIG mailbox (TG number) associated with the User ID that requested the report.
