Pam’s Link Alerts: U.S. Department of Education Releases Financial Awareness Counseling Tool

July 13, 2012

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) just released a new Financial Awareness Counseling Tool to help students understand their financial aid and manage their overall finances. The tool provides students with five interactive tutorials on the following topics:

  • Understand Your Loans
  • Manage Your Spending
  • Plan to Repay
  • Avoid Default
  • Make Finances a Priority

Students are able to access their individual loan history and receive personalized feedback. Financial aid professionals can also monitor a student’s progress in using the tool and provide assistance if necessary. The new tool is part of the Obama Administration’s initiative to promote financial literacy and consumer disclosure for students and families.

You may preview the tool by clicking on the Continue button at the bottom of each page, and you may enter amounts to test the modules. However, you will need to log-in to access individual loan information.
