Use Nelnet Resources During Financial Literacy Month

April 4, 2013

One of the greatest challenges facing our higher education campuses today centers around financial literacy….what to offer, when to offer it, and how should the material be delivered to students?

These are timely discussions, as April is Financial Literacy Month, a time when all individuals should become more knowledgeable about how to take charge of their personal financial well-being.

Nelnet has developed a full array of materials that assists students in understanding the benefits of a healthy financial situation. Their gateway to this material is Nelnet.com. Under the Get Fit Financially offering, students will immediately see information about our Money Monday webinar series. These programs cover  basic financial literacy topics including Personal Finance, Budgeting, Understanding Credit and your FICO Score, Using Credit Cards, Savings and Investing (April’s topic), and Student Loan Repayment. A different topic is offered approximately every 4-6 weeks. The one hour sessions are offered at 2:00 P.M and 4:30 P.M Eastern Time. Once a month, we even offer a session that starts at 11:30 P.M Eastern Time. Students may register for the webinars at Nelnet.com.

Our Live Life Smart Guide combines many of our PDFs and worksheets into one document. This one stop shop document provides information on student loans, managing money, budget worksheets, strategies for savings, credit card tips, loan repayment estimates, how to avoid delinquency and default, plus many other resources. The guide notes that balancing educational goals with good borrowing decisions is the key to a healthy financial future.

These are just a few of the programs that Nelnet has developed to assist your efforts on campus. Visit our websites (Nelnet.com, nelnetloanservicing.com) to see what other tools are available to you and your students.

Good, sound financial literacy programs not only educate students about finances, but may reduce student loan default rates, protect Title IV funding, recruit new students, and improve graduation rates. The benefits are endless. Let us know what we can do to assist your efforts.
