Borrower Experience: Encourage Students to Stay Connected with Nelnet

April 29, 2013

Nelnet’s phone lines are open to your students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 888.486.4722. In addition to that, there are a number of other ways they can stay engaged with Nelnet and manage their debt. Our goal is to provide multiple communication avenues in order for your students to reach us.

The key to all of this is to ensure students repay their loans, therefore, ultimately keeping your default rate low. As spring exit counseling season approaches, here are a few “student-centric” suggestions to add to your sessions. You are also welcome to copy and paste them to your webpage. These steps should be completed while students are still enrolled and you have their undivided attention. Give it a try and send us your feedback. We would love to post your success stories.

Before your students leave for summer break, encourage every student borrower to:

1.     Login and become familiar with NSLDS: nslds.ed.gov

2.     Access their loan information by creating an online account at Nelnet.com

3.     Follow us on Facebook:  Facebook.com/Nelnet & Twitter: Twitter.com/Nelnet

4.     Download Nelnet’s Loan Assist App from iTunes or Android Market

5.     Sign up to receive account information via Nelnet text messaging

6.     Use Nelnet’s Web Chat (available M-F 7AM-10PM CST) or Interactive Voice Response
