Two-Factor Authentication Coming Soon to Nsight

July 7, 2013

Nsight imageSave the date! At the end of July, Nelnet will implement a two-factor authentication process for access to Nsight, our online student loan reporting tool. This new process ensures greater security for our borrowers’ information and compliance with federal student loan servicing requirements.

We will keep you informed of the exact implementation date and make sure you know what actions you need to take. Here is some information to help you get started.

What is two-factor authentication?

The first factor is easy. It is your Nsight user ID and password. The second factor is a unique security code, which can be obtained from your Symantec Validation and ID Protection (VIP) credential. You can obtain your VIP credential from one of two places:  a hardware token or VIP Access software download.

Do you have a hardware token?

Do you already have a hardware token that you use to access FSA sites such as NSLDS or COD? If so, you will just need to register your token on Nsight. We will provide directions for registering in an upcoming email. Stay tuned.

Do you have VIP Access?

Have you already downloaded VIP Access? If so, you will just need to register your VIP credential on Nsight. This same VIP credential can also be registered for use on other VIP member sites, such as other student loan servicers’ websites. We will provide directions for registering in an upcoming email. Stay tuned.

Don’t have a token or VIP Access?

If you don’t have a token or VIP Access, that’s okay. You can download VIP Access here for your desktop. It does require administrative permissions to download, so you may need assistance from an IT professional at your institution. If you need a hardware token to also access Department of Education sites, you should contact your Primary Destination Point Administrator (PDPA). The PDPA should send an e-mail to TFA_Communications@ed.gov, and include the school name and OPE ID on the correspondence.

In the next few weeks, you will receive instructions on how to register your credential on Nsight. If you have questions in the meantime, you can check out Symantec’s FAQs about VIP Access or you can call Nelnet’s School Service Center at 866.463.5638.
