Reducing Federal Loan Delinquency and Default
October 31, 2013
As your federal loan servicer, we at Nelnet know that you are concerned about your school’s default rates. We are your partner in this process, and we’d like to work together with you on strategies to reduce delinquencies and default.
Below are some tools that may help. All are provided free of charge:
- School Service Representative – We’d like to learn more about your needs and discuss the free tools and resources we have available to help. If you’d like to discuss this in more detail, please feel free to contact your dedicated Nelnet Regional Director at any time.
- Default Reduction Website – Nelnet offers a step-by-step plan to help you develop a Default Prevention Plan for your school. It also includes school success stories, Financial Literacy resources, scripts for outreach to delinquent borrowers, and links to some of the top default reduction sites where you can find additional information.
- Real time Borrower Information, Transactions and Reports – Nelnet offers Nsight Plus, a real-time resource for information about student account and contact information, mail-merge letters you can send to delinquent borrowers, easy to use document exchanges and more.
- Training – Nelnet offers Webinar Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (Eastern) to teach administrators about financial aid regulations and default prevention strategies.
- Borrower Communications – We know schools want to be aware of our Communication Strategy for Delinquent Borrowers as they counsel their students. Nelnet also allows schools to view screen shots of our online account process for borrowers, communications we send during the loan life cycle, and the frequency of our borrower outreach. Our new Borrower Services Tab now provides this information.
It is our job to support you, your school, and your borrowers. Please feel free to contact your Nelnet Regional Director.
