Nelnet Borrower Text Alerts
Students and parents are getting more and more used to receiving information—including bills and other financial info—on the go. With text alerts from Nelnet, borrowers can get important account information when it’s convenient for them. Borrowers can choose to receive text alerts when:
- Due date is approaching (5 or 15 days ahead of time)
- Payment is past due (5 or 15 days past due)
- Loan status changes
- New statement is ready to view
We are excited about communicating with our customers in the way they want to hear from us. To ensure we remain focused on borrowers and what is best for them:
- Nelnet does not charge customers to use this text messaging feature (standard cell phone messaging rates may apply).
- This service is completely based on elections that a borrower makes. Customers must sign up for this service on Nelnet.com, and they may choose to receive any or all of the available notifications.
- If a customer wants to “opt out” of text message alerts after signing up, they can either change their settings in their online account or can simply reply “STOP” to any of the text messages we send them.
To sign up for text message alerts on Nelnet.com, customers can complete these steps:
- Sign in to their online account (or register, if a new user).
- Click the “My Info and Preferences” link.
- Select the “Message Settings” tab.
- Choose “Manage Account Alerts (SMS Text Messages).”
- Indicate their cell phone number and the alert(s) they wish to receive.
If your students have any questions about text alerts from Nelnet, they may contact the Customer Interaction Center at 1.888.486.4722, 24/7. Schools may contact their Regional Director or the School Service Center (1.866.463.5638) with questions.
