News You Can Use: E-Signed Forms No Longer Accepted
The Direct Loan servicer community recently received clarification from the Department of Education with regards to the acceptance of e-signed forms for Department of Education held loans. Going forward, e-signed forms are only acceptable when they are received from a Department of Education owned website or authorized Direct Loan servicer. As a result, both schools’ and third-party financial aid/default prevention servicers’ e-signed forms (such as Hardship Forbearance, Economic Hardship Deferment, and Unemployment Deferment forms) can no longer be accepted. Should Nelnet receive an unacceptable e-signed form, we will send a form to the borrower for a wet signature.
Our focus is always on delivering an effective and exceptional borrower experience when providing repayment or any other assistance. As such, we do provide a secure online option for immediate access to support borrower repayment. We encourage all borrowers to visit Nelnet.com and create a secure online account to apply for available repayment assistance options.
Thank you for your continued partnership! If you have questions, feel free to contact your Regional Director.
