Nelnet Interns: Nicole Mun
Meet Nicole Mun, Nelnet’s new Account Services/Writing Intern in the communications department in the Lincoln, NE office! I have the pleasure of not only working with Nicole, but I have class with her at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln as well. Like myself, she is majoring in Advertising and Public Relations. I had the opportunity to ask Nicole a few questions and learn more about her:
- Why did you decide to accept an internship at Nelnet?
When Brianne interviewed me for the position, she was so enthusiastic and explained how amazing the culture at Nelnet was. That is when I knew that I had to work here, as I believe a good culture is key to any success or growth.
- What aspect of being an intern at Nelnet do you most enjoy?
I love that my internship is so versatile. I have worked with social media, helped account executives with different projects, and I am now writing articles for Nelnet’s employee portal page. I am grateful for all the experience and knowledge I have access to.
- What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
When I have down time, I like to play master chef in my kitchen, catch up with old friends, and read any book by Mitch Albom.
- What do you want to do after college?
I am a California native, but Nebraska stole my heart. I plan to start a career here while I put my Advertising and Public Relations degree to good use, surrounded by enthusiastic and inspirational people.
- What’s something you have learned about Nelnet that you didn’t know before you started your internship?
I had no idea how HUGE Nelnet actually is. I thought they strictly worked with student loans, but this company does so much more to help make educational dreams possible.
- What financial literacy topics do you think are most pressing to students your age?
I think basic financial literacy is the most pressing. Many students struggle with simple things like understanding credit and how to start saving simply, because they were never taught.
- What apps do you use the most on your phone?
I am constantly checking my email, bank account, and all social media sites. Instagram is probably my favorite (#valencia).
