Deb Byers Will Be Missed

The Nelnet Partner Solutions team is deeply saddened by the loss of RMASFAA President Deb Byers. She was a good friend to many of us, as well as an incredible supporter of the financial aid community. Our hearts go out to Deb’s family and friends, as well as her Wichita State, KASFAA, and RMASFAA colleagues.

d-byers1Byers, Deborah (DiNitto), 57, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014. Debbie was a passionate and loving person with her family and many dear friends and work associates. She was the Wichita State University Director of Financial Aid and regional Vice President of the National Association of Financial Student Aid Administrators, President of Rocky Mountain Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, former President of the Kansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and Hall of Fame Recipient (2008), and recipient of the Kansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Outstanding Service Award (1998), and WSU Bender Of Twigs Recognition for 25 years of service. Born in Hutchinson, she attended Haven Grade and High Schools and graduated from Hutchinson Community College and Emporia State University with a Bachelor degree in Personnel Administration and a Masters in Student Services Management. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Martin & Martha Halfmann, and uncle, Martin Halfmann Jr. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Brian K. Byers; parents, Joseph and Joan DiNitto of Haven; children, Ashley Byers (fiancé Mark Buxton) of Lawrence, Matthew Byers of Wichita; brothers, Joseph DiNitto, Jr. of Haven, Martin DiNitto (Allyson) of Overland Park, Michael DiNitto of Lawrence; niece, Elizabeth DiNitto; nephew, Christopher DiNitto, and many other brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. A Catholic rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 30, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 1, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Donations can be made in her honor to the Wichita State University Foundation, 1845 Fairmount, Wichita, KS 67260-0002. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
