School Service Center Spotlight: Robert Rasco
Name: Robert Rasco
Title: School Service Center Outreach Specialist
Nycci: How long have you been with Nelnet?
Robert: Four years.
Nycci: What is your favorite part about the job?
Robert: I enjoy the people on my team here at the School Service Center. We all pull together for the common cause. Laughter is a key ingredient for us; it helps with some those bad days we all have.
Nycci: If you could pick a super power, what would it be and why?
Robert: To fly like Superman, because let’s face it…we’ve all flown and stood in long lines. Nothing would beat the freedom of flying solo, blazing my own path.
Nycci: If you could have an endless supply of any food, what would you get and why?
Robert: “Give me a cow or give me death!” I grew up in Nebraska, which has some of the best beef in the world.
Nycci: What is the best advice you ever received?
Robert: Speaking with truth and honesty, because without it your name is nothing.
Nycci: What do you feel are some of the biggest challenges that today’s direct loan borrowers face?
Robert: I will give you three: employment, employment, employment. It seems like the economy is picking up, but those good jobs are still scarce and there’s more competition. Lots of people are underemployed or working multiple jobs to live paycheck to paycheck. The Income Based Repayment Plan (IBR) is a popular option to help manage student loans debt over the long term, simply based on their income.
