Giving the Gift of Mentoring
At Nelnet, we believe it is important to give back to the communities in which we live and work. With many schools in our area, Nelnet associates participate in mentoring programs, such as TeamMates, Junior Achievement, Boys and Girls Club, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters to provide children with positive role models.
We make volunteering in these programs simple. For a few hours a week (or month, depending on the program), our associates volunteer their time and talents to change the lives of today’s youth. “By visiting Lincoln, Nebraska, classrooms to teach Junior Achievement, Nelnet is working to uphold the company mission of creating a more educated and fiscally responsible world,” says Chelsea Brandl, Customer Interaction Center Trainer and former Junior Achievement program director. “Junior Achievement also offers an opportunity for associates to increase their confidence, improve their public speaking skills, and spark a renewed passion for their job.”
With many associates giving their time to mentor, we are striving to make a difference and positively impact the youth in our area. “Although my mentee attends the same school as my own children, I was surprised by the challenges other kids face,” says Jeannie Croner, a Default Management Center Supervisor. “I thought that I was going to help mold an additional child’s life. Little did I know that I would be learning and growing as a person right alongside her.”
One by one, Nelnet associates are taking a step to better the community and the lives of those around them.
