IDR Recertification Requests Now Accepted up to 120 Days before Anniversary Date
In order to better align with our customers’ needs, Nelnet will be making a small adjustment to our income-driven repayment (IDR) recertification processing, that will make a big impact for our customers. Effective mid-October, Nelnet will review and apply IDR recertifications received up to 120 days in advance of their IDR anniversary date.
Nelnet will continue to send recertification notices to customers at 90 days, 75 days, and 45 days from the anniversary date to remind them to submit their income documentation in order to have their request processed. Acceptable income verification is a copy of their most recent tax return, their most recent pay stub (with pay frequency noted on that pay stub), or self-certification of current income on the recertification application.
If the customer sends in a request for an IDR recalculation within 120 days of the anniversary date, it will be processed as a recalculation. The customer will have 12 months of the new partial financial hardship (PFH) amount, but the anniversary date will be changed to when the new PFH amount took effect.
If you have questions on the change please reach out to the Nelnet School Service Center at or SSC@nelnet.net
