When do I complete the FAFSA? What’s an award letter? Should I accept all of the aid I’m offered?

For students, financial aid questions come in bunches. To help students understand their options and answer their questions about federal student aid, FSA provides The Guide to Federal Student Aid. The guide offers detailed information on financial aid and the FAFSA.

This resource answers 15 important financial aid questions and breaks down the complicated topics for students. Questions covered in the guide include:

  • What is federal student aid?
  • Who receives financial aid?
  • When should I complete the FAFSA?
  • What information is necessary for the FAFSA?
  • How much financial aid may a student receive?
  • How will a student receive his or her financial aid?
  • And more

Another helpful tool within the guide is a chart that breaks down different types of federal student aid (grants, work-study, and loans). The chart explains the different eligibility requirements and also gives details on annual award amounts.

Please feel free to share The Guide to Federal Student Aid 2017-18 with your students and check out FSA’s website for more great Financial Literacy resources.
